232 Managing Customers Through Economic Cycles
29. Niche social news site votes – In marketing circles
and for SEO blogs it is widely known that the search
marketing social news site Sphinn is the destination to
submit your work. Being successful here means recog-
nition by experts and highly targeted visitors. Each
niche has its own niche social news site: Hugg for
“green” news, YCombinator for startups and technol-
ogy, Design Float and Design Bump for design, and
DZone for web development and programming.
30. Number of “thumbs up” on StumbleUpon – Other
than Digg or Reddit, social browsing sites like
StumbleUpon are populated by the general public from
around the globe. People voting for a site on
StumbleUpon “like you”. Whether a site has “mass
appeal” can be discovered here (not on Digg).
31. StumbleUpon reviews feedback – People who write
reviews about a site on StumbleUpon have a real emo-
tional connection to the site, the StumbleUpon com-
munity, and/or the subject they are addressing. Getting
10 or more “awesome” reviews on StumbleUpon is a
solid measurement regarding the overall popularity of
a website or a particular webpage.
32. Technorati Blog mentions – A page often mentioned
on Technorati is truly admired in the blogosphere. The
Technorati authority is not a reliable metric. It’s based
largely on Technorati bookmarks, which bloggers can
manipulate easily.
33. Google BlogSearch Links – While the main Google
search does not show many links, the Google blogsearch
does. It will show the legitimate links by other blogs,
not the scraper blogs. The scraper blogs (bloggers who
gather copyrighted material) can be monitored by using
AideRSS.*
